WHAT'S IN THE VIDEO: In this video, our mentor Geetika Mittal (Senior Associate at EY) explains in the simplest of ways how can someone in their early 20s plan their investments for the future. She talks about how early investors should make investment decisions based on age and personal goals. For example, a person in their early career should keep aside a larger portion of their funds towards equity, whereas someone in their later lives should move on to more debt/low-risk investments. One should also plan how to distribute income based on short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals. For the short term, it could be keeping aside an amount that would help you buy a car, or go on a vacation. For the long term, you'd want to buy a house or keep aside money for your children's education. The money required then should be invested today, keeping in mind the time value of money.
